Dear Potholes,
This letter is addressed particularly to the Witkoppen and Rivonia off-ramp in Sunninghill. We have been doing this for years. I know exactly where the trouble starts, I know what you are capable of, and somehow I still end up paying for the damage. An arrangement I am embarrassingly familiar with.
Every few months, someone comes along, patches you up and assures us things will be different. Then the first proper rain arrives, and there you are, exactly as you were before. I have dated men with a more convincing record of personal growth.
If you were an ex, my friends would have staged an intervention years ago. Unfortunately, you are a road, so everyone keeps giving you another chance at the taxpayer’s expense.
I would take another route, but this is Johannesburg, and apparently your entire family has the same issues.
Yours, tired of paying for damage I did not cause,
Dear John
