Dear Reader,
You have spent a week enjoying our breakup letters. Before this becomes another relationship in which one party refuses to explain their intentions, we should introduce ourselves.
We are Dear John, Johannesburg’s modern breakup agency. We write the letters, make the calls and arrange the farewells, with flowers, chocolates, champagne or a Breakup Cake, because “we need to talk” goes down better with buttercream.
An entire industry exists to help people fall in love. Nobody built one to help them leave, which explains why so many of them simply stop replying.
We open on 1 November. Until then, enjoy the letters. If you read one aloud to somebody and they ask whether you are trying to tell them something, finish the paragraph.
