Dear John is a modern breakup agency based in Sandton, Johannesburg.
We write the letters, make the telephone calls and arrange thoughtfully chosen farewells. You tell us what happened, approve what needs to be said and leave the uncomfortable business of delivering the news to us.
We are not therapists, lawyers or relationship counsellors, and we have no intention of offering unsolicited advice about your romantic choices. We have all mistaken red flags for interesting personality traits. We simply believe that ending a relationship should not require the sort of elaborate deception usually reserved for international espionage.

We take confidentiality seriously. Your romantic history belongs to you, and we have absolutely no interest in providing material for someone else’s dinner-party conversation.
We will deliver the news honestly and respectfully, but we will not humiliate, threaten or harass anyone on your behalf. We handle breakups, not revenge campaigns.

Choose your service from The Breakup Menu and we send you a confidential briefing. We write the message, you get up to two rounds of revisions, and nothing goes out until you approve the final wording in writing. The full story.
Your first draft will be ready within two business days of receiving your completed briefing. Once you approve it in writing, we arrange delivery of your letter or telephone call within five business days.
The Dear John Letter is R350 digital or R500 on paper. The Breakup Call is R550 and Breakup with Flowers is R850. It is all on The Breakup Menu.
Yes. We say who we are and why we are in touch. Discreet, never deceptive, and we never pretend to be you.
Every booking is covered by the confidentiality agreement in our Terms of Service. Briefings and drafts are deleted 90 days after delivery.
Change your mind before you approve the final wording and nothing is sent. Our refund policy sets out what comes back at each stage.
